Why Is Google Calling My Business?
Last updated:
Google may be calling your business because a customer asked Google, through Search, Maps or AI Mode, to check your prices, availability or hours or to book an appointment for them, or because Google wants to confirm the details on your Business Profile. The call is free, recorded for quality, and you can answer it, keep your info online so Google calls less, or turn it off in your Business Profile settings.
These calls are a sign that customers are using Google to shop around for businesses like yours. A little prep turns them into bookings. This guide is for salons, barbers, spas, auto shops, pet groomers and home service pros like HVAC, plumbing, electrical and cleaning.
Is that call really from Google?
Yes, Google does make automated calls and send texts to the phone number on your Business Profile. Google says it will never ask for payment, card details or passwords. If a caller asks you for money to keep you on Google, it is not Google.
Google explains how to spot a real call here: Google Business Profile Help.
What is Google calling to ask?
Is a customer asking about my prices or availability?
Customers can tap "Have AI check pricing" in Google Search, or ask in AI Mode, and Google may call several nearby businesses on their behalf. Google shares the request details, which may include the customer's name, and the customer gets the quotes by email. Google's own examples include auto repair shops, hair salons, pet groomers, wellness centers and driving schools.

Is someone trying to book an appointment?
A customer can tell Google the service and time they want, and Google calls to book it. If you use an online booking provider, Google may book through it instead of calling.

Is Google checking my hours or business info?
Google also calls or texts to confirm your hours and details. Updates from these calls show as Pending and can take up to 5 business days to review. Answering does not affect your account standing. If you share in-store product details through Merchant Center, Google uses that and won't call about inventory.
How often will Google call, and when?
Google says it only calls when a customer wants to book, check a wait time or confirm prices and availability, or when it needs to check your hours or in-demand inventory. It says it limits repeat calls for the same information and avoids calling late at night or early in the morning. Calls are monitored and recorded for quality.

Where does this happen?
As of October 2026, Google's help page says calls made for customers run in the US in every state except Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana and Nebraska, for signed in, English speaking users 18 and older. At Google I/O on May 19, 2026, Google said asking Google to call businesses for home repair, beauty and pet care would roll out to everyone in the US that summer.

How do I make sure Google gets the right answer?
Are my hours, services and prices up to date on my Business Profile?
Keep your hours (including holiday hours), services, price ranges and phone number accurate in Google Business Profile. Use the same business name, address and phone number everywhere you are listed.
Can I put prices and booking online so Google doesn't need to call?
Google says AI Mode calls businesses when the details are not available online. Publishing your services, starting prices and online booking on your website and Business Profile gives Google an answer it can use without calling.

Curious what AI says about your business?
Who answers the phone when Google calls?
A missed call can mean a missed quote. Whoever picks up should know your prices and openings. A simple script for your staff helps, and so does an AI receptionist.
Can an AI receptionist answer Google's calls for me?
Yes. Cultura Grow is the bridge between your business and the right AI voice partner. We set up AI voice agents that answer every call, give your approved prices and openings, book appointments, and hand off to a person on your team when needed. We work alongside your existing IT provider. See how it works on our AI receptionist page.
How do I stop Google from calling my business?
You have two options:
- On the call, say "Please stop calling my business."
- On a verified profile, open your Business Profile, choose More, then Business Profile settings, then Advanced settings. Under "Google automated calls and text messages," turn off "Bookings and inquiries from customers," "Keep your profile up to date," and/or "Post to your profile on your behalf."
To stop texts, reply STOP. You may still get the occasional call from a real person at Google. Keep in mind that turning calls off also means customer quote and booking requests won't reach you this way.

- Check your Business Profile hours, holiday hours and services.
- Add starting prices where you can.
- Turn on online booking.
- Brief whoever answers the phone on prices and openings.
- Decide whether to keep Google's calls on.
